The Student Investment Program (SIP) is supported by the generous donation of our initial sponsor Prudential Financial. SIP is administered in partnership with Student Freedom Initiative (SFI) and Stackwell, who will work to increase investment in financial markets for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) nationwide within the SFI network with the resulting goal of better financial outcomes and financial wellness for future leaders in the community.
This pilot program provides students with hands-on investment education obtained through financial sessions focusing on understanding the fundamentals of securities markets, theories and concepts of security research, and valuation. The knowledge obtained in the sessions and on the platform will allow students to select from multiple portfolios provided. Eligible students will incrementally receive $1,000 over a 12-month period, are encouraged make monthly contributions over the same timeframe, and encouraged to participate in workshops, focus groups, and other data collection activities.
Financial educational sessions begin in January 2023, SIP launches in March 2023 for the selected applicants who have met eligibility criteria.
